Acknowledgement Files

Availity sends files acknowledgements, interchange acknowledgements, and functional group acknowledgement or implementation acknowledgement files, as appropriate, to submitters who send EDI transmission files through Availity. Availity sends these files to the organization's ReceiveFiles mail box.

File Acknowledgements

Negative file acknowledgement files are delivered only when Availity rejected the file in the first step of validation, usually due to unacceptable file format.

The negative file acknowledgement can be received in a machine-readable delimited (.ACK) format or a human-readable text (.ACT) format. All EDI batch submitters receive the delimited format by default. The text format (.ACT) may be selected instead of the delimited format.

Interchange Acknowledgements

Negative interchange acknowledgements are delivered automatically when Availity rejected the file, usually due to one of these issues:

The PAA must set up reporting preferences to receive positive interchange acknowledgements for accepted files. The PAA can select to include the TA1 with the functional group or implementation acknowledgement.

The interchange acknowledgement can be received in a machine-readable delimited (.TA1) format or a human-readable text (.TAT) format. All EDI batch submitters receive the delimited format by default. The text format (.TAT) may be selected instead of the delimited format.

Functional Group Acknowledgements or Implementation Acknowledgements

Functional group acknowledgement or implementation acknowledgement files contain file-level information and indicate that Availity received the file. Negative acknowledgements also indicate that Availity has accepted or rejected a transaction set in the interchange or file. Negative acknowledgements are delivered automatically. The PAA must set up reporting preferences to receive positive functional group acknowledgements or implementation acknowledgements for accepted, clean files.

The functional group acknowledgement or implementation acknowledgement can be received in an X12 machine-readable (.997 for batches submitted in 4010 or .999 for batches submitted in 5010) format or a human-readable text (.97T for batches submitted in 4010 or .99T for batches submitted in 5010). All EDI batch submitters receive the X12 data format acknowledgement. The human-readable acknowledgement is an optional selection.
